5 Steps to Get Your VA Disability Claim Together
Submitting a VA claim for disability benefits is not the most cut and dry process. Getting your windage dialed in on the KD course is a lot easier and a process we know better. To help with the process of getting your claim put together and submitted follow the steps below. We made them as simple as we could.
1. [ ] Identify Injuries
· Identify all injuries that occurred while on active duty
· Identify injuries/symptoms related to or caused by an injury received on active duty
· Write these down on a sheet of paper
2. [ ] Collect Supporting Documentation
· DD214
· Military Medical Records (all of them)
· Civilian Medical Records (all of them)
· Medical Specialist Records (physical therapy, pain management, etc.)
· Personal Statements (buddy, spouse, and personal)
3. [ ] Determine How You Will File Your Claim
· Online at VA.GOV
· Mail your claim in via USPS Priority Mail
· Hand deliver to V.A. Regional Office
4. [ ] Prepare Claim Documents
· If mailing in or hand-delivering fill out VA Form 21-526EZ https://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/vba-21-526ez-are.pdf
· If filing at VA.GOV the website will prompt you for the necessary information
· Copy supporting documentation for each disability claimed on the forms
5. [ ] Submit Your Claim
· Go to VA.GOV and file your claim
· Mail or hand-deliver your claim to the V.A. Regional Office near you
As an added step make sure you follow up with your claim on the VA.GOV website. Here you can check the status of your claims submission and see if there is anything else the VA is stating they need from you. Don't get stressed out by the amount of time it takes the VA to send you a decision letter, the hard work is done and if you submitted a solid disability claim the decision letter will have favorable results. Keep your head up.
